Are Veterans Wary of Gingrich?

Republican Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich may be rising in the polls, but according to Austin, Texas, Veterans Policy Examiner Chuck Yarling, he has a ways to go if he wants the Republican veterans to get on board. A new poll puts Gingrich and Mitt Romney neck and neck among 746 likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire, but when Yarling reached out to his veterans 64 percent were unimpressed with 9 percent undecided and only 27 percent who thought they would vote for the disgraced Speaker of the House. But that aligns pretty closely with the New Hampshire Republican likely voters. Although Gingrich is taking the lead, he only has 9 percent of the vote.
The Veterans Administration (VA) knows that there is strength in numbers. That matters for research purposes, as well. The VA just launched the Million Veteran Program (MVP) to collect DNA samples from veterans to understand how genes affect health and illness. The program will explore why some veterans are susceptible to post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other service-related illnesses. Participation is voluntary. The VA Office of Research and Development hopes that it will be able to develop one of the largest genetics databases and revolutionize genomics.
When a president pushes the red button, it is a call for action by soldiers sequestered in some of the most remote and protected areas in the world. Veterans from the former Army missile site in Georgia saw their secret site dismantled, but gone does not mean forgotten. Ernest Cooling is calling all veterans of the Nike and Byron sites to get together at the Museum of Aviation at Robins Air Force Base on December 3, 2011, to reminisce and reestablish friendships.
Wisconsin reaches out to veterans to encourage them to learn what benefits they qualify for and how to access them.
