New Jersey VA Honors Veterans

In New Jersey, the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is making sure veterans know about the benefits they are entitled to. Through an outreach program at the Deptford Mall, the NJ VA provided literature and answered questions in an effort to get more unused benefits to their rightful recipients.
The Gloucester County Times reported that veterans benefits was the main topic of discussion for those reaching out to former U.S. military members and their families as they were encouraged to learn more about the federally-backed services available to them.
In addition to providing benefits information, the event was also a platform to decorate 67 veterans with the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal. More than 50 of the 67 veterans were present to receive the medals.
The NJ VA’s veterans outreach coordinator, Chuck Robbins commented, “It takes a lot of work to put one together.” Robbins went on to say, “But it’s a great way to reach out to the veterans. We’ll be talking to veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the current wars.”
The NJ VA invites other retired military personnel in the state to apply for the Distinguished Service Medal on the New Jersey Veterans Guide website. The site, sponsored by the NJ Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, also has valuable information regarding veterans’ home loan benefits, educational services and other information.
