Military Buzz: Veterans Make News in Vegas

Veterans are having a busy news day.  The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) issued a release that is garnering a lot of coverage that encourages women to talk to their physician and to obtain regular breast cancer examinations. Xerox teams with the VA’s to streamline veterans’ disability claims.  ACS, a Xerox company, will convert paper claimes to electronic ones in the effort to reduce backlogs and more accurately respond to requests.

 

DOMA Technologies, a member of the 7 Delta Team, just received a $12 billion contract with the VA to improve healthcare benefit services to veterans and their dependents.  The contracts provides IT support for program management expertise and life cycle support.

Kitsap County voters will decide whether a tax levy to help the homeless, deal with medical and criminal justice and  increase the self-sufficiency of veterans and others in need merits a $.05 levy on each $1,000 of assessed property value.  The approximately $1.35 million raised will cost about $12.50 on a $250,000 property.  Supporters, including Kitsap County Veterans Advisory Board chairman Fred Scheffler say there is a “tsunami” of need without enough resources.  Jack Hamilton, chairman of the Kitsap County Republican Party, who is also a veteran says the levy isn’t needed.

Outserve comes out is in Vegas at a three-day conference that discussed the impact of being GLTB in the military and how the reversal of DODT affects military and veterans.
