How about exploring the number of civilian deaths resulting from the Taliban insurgency. Instead, the spotlight remains heavily on a fraction of the tens of thousands of US troops in Afghanistan.

Women and the military have had a tumultuous relationship over the years. In today’s wars, there are more women serving on the “front lines,” than ever before. Many people critical of the women in the military have argued, in one way or another, that male soldiers can simply do things that female soldiers cannot. Yet, in times of war we have always called upon both genders to see us through and women have always done so with distinction. The Marines, not typically seen as the most inclusive or progressive of branches, has found a mission that could only be completed by their female Marines.
